Who we help
We work only with individual employees, never employers. If any of these sound familiar, you are in the right place.
You were handed a performance improvement plan and want to understand what it really means, whether the goals are realistic, and what to do next.
Read the guideYou reported a concern and things got worse. You want to document what is happening and follow up with HR without escalating too fast.
Read the guideYour performance review does not match your work. You want to respond in writing, calmly and with evidence, before it follows you.

Read the guideYou do not feel safe asking company HR how to protect yourself, and you are not sure your situation needs an attorney yet.

What we don't provide
Independent HR support fills the gap between company HR and an employment attorney. It does not replace either one.
Caged Bird HR is not a law firm. We do not file claims, interpret the law for your case, or represent you with your employer or an agency.
We can explain common severance terms and HR norms, but a licensed attorney should review any agreement before you sign away rights.
We work behind the scenes. You stay in control of every message and conversation with your company.
We help you communicate clearly and make informed decisions. No one can promise how your employer will respond.
For questions about taxes, benefits elections, or health, we will point you to the right professional.
Need an attorney? Find a state bar referral service.
How to book
Choose a time that works for you and pay the $125 call fee. You will get a short survey so we can prepare.
Meet one-on-one with an independent HR professional. Walk through what is happening, what you have documented, and what worries you most.
You will know where you stand and what to do next, whether that is handling it yourself, adding a support package, or talking to an attorney.
It is HR guidance you hire directly, from a professional who works for you rather than your employer. You get the same knowledge of policies, investigations, performance processes, and severance that company HR has, applied to protecting your interests.
Company HR is employed by your employer and is responsible for protecting the company. An independent HR consultant has no obligation to your employer, so the advice is about what is best for you.
No. An HR consultant helps you understand the process, communicate well, and plan next steps. An attorney gives legal advice, reviews contracts, and can represent you. Many clients use both, and we will tell you when your situation needs a lawyer.
A Discovery Call is $125 for 30 minutes one-on-one. If you need ongoing help afterward, Basic Support is $500 for one week and Standard Support is $1,500 for one month.
Not unless you tell them. We never contact your employer. You send every message and attend every meeting yourself.
Yes. HR guidance is available wherever you work in the U.S. Because employment laws vary by state, we will flag anything state-specific that should be checked with a local attorney.
Caged Bird HR is not a law firm. This guide is general HR information, not legal, tax, or financial advice, and reading it does not create a consultant or attorney relationship. Laws and deadlines vary by state. For legal advice about your situation, talk to a licensed employment attorney.
